(Lav. Angust. cv. ‘Royal Velvet’) Hgt. 18-20”
Royal Velvet is an attractive, compact shrub that was first introduced in Newberg, Oregon by Andy Van Hevelingen from seeds he collected on a trip to England. Royal Velvet is a beautiful addition to any garden due to its deep, violet-blue blooms and compact shrub size. For this reason, Royal Velvet makes a great container plant. What sets this lavender apart from others is the fact that Royal Velvet bunches retain their color exceptionally well once dried. For this reason, Royal Velvet is a popular choice for crafts. Royal Velvet’s foliage is pale grey-green in color. It begins blooming in the early summer and, once harvested, produces yet another bloom. Royal Velvet is wonderfully fragrant and makes for fantastic fresh cut bunches throughout the summer months. Plant size ranges from eighteen to twenty inches yet despite its small stature, Royal Velvet flower stems are relatively long at 10-12”. Atop these stems one will find a delicate spike that consists of evenly spaced buds hugging the top two inches of the stalk. Royal Velvet lavender is versatile and can be used for crafts, culinary and aromatherapy. This lavender is hardy from agricultural zones 5 through 9.
Dries beautifully for crafts or bouquets. Zone 5-9
