(Lav. angustifolia cv. 'Dark Supreme') Hgt. 24-30”
Sometimes lavender cultivars are known by different names and Dark Supreme is no exception. Introduced in 1987 by Tom DeBaggio and named after his father-in-law, W.K. Doyle, Dark Supreme is a compact purple lavender plant that is known to bloom twice in a season, depending on summer duration and yearly weather conditions. When Dark Supreme begins to flower, it produces long spikes that appear white in the beginning and eventually turn a deep violet color once opened. Dark Supreme has 8-10” spikes and begins to flower in late spring and then again in late summer. Many gardeners are drawn to Dark Supreme because of its upright foliage, making it wonderful for fresh cut flowers as well as dried bouquets. It is recommended to plant Dark Supreme at 30” spacing to allow for proper airflow between the plants. This English lavender has grayish green foliage and turns a grey color during the winter months. Dark Supreme has a rich, floral fragrance. Since Dark Supreme is an angustifolia, it can be used for culinary dishes as well as floral crafts and loose flower sachets. It is hardy to zones 5 through 9.
Excellent landscape plant. Zone 5-9
